WORK IN PROGRESS of Barcelona-based illustrator Jani Lunablau

January 27, 2015

What a wonderful experience: I spent my saturday afternoon at DoThePrint, experimenting with their Risograph Printer... and fell deeply in love with the aesthetic it offers!!

The machine looks like a common copy machine but works a bit different: it prints every color separate, just like silkscreen printing. So you have to prepare your illustration by making every color a document, keeping in mind that you can print one color on top of the other and create a third color this way. The imperfections look absolutely charming, and it's nice to know that ink is soy-based and much more ecological than other toners.

I quiet liked the look of my sketches printed in neon-pink and ocher... and converted the strip into a little accordion-book:

... with my friend and writer Paulina Fariza. These are the sketches for the first story... I'm really happy to start this new experience and I don't have a clue where it will take us...

This weekend, I signed up for a workshop of Risograph and will experiment with this comic strip.
Pictures will be online next week!!

HAPPY 2015!

I tried to get used to my smartphones' calendar last year, but didn't succeed.
So, back to paper: this is my agenda for 2015!
The interior is especially designed by my friend and colleague illustrator Stiliana Mitzewa to meet freelancers' needs, and I used an old sail for the cover... it all holds together with a combination of long-stitch and chain-stitch bookbinding.

I wish you a very happy 2015!
